Summary: Plans, manages and provides leadership to assigned Plants and other operations, including dispatch within a given region of the organization; guiding the safe and efficient use of labor and equipment. Manages all assigned customer accounts and completes territory assessment while assisting in the achievement of Prairie Material sales and marketing goals. Performs concrete testing, monitors job site placements, quality control, customer liaison and monitors safety on the job.

Key Job Functions:

Yard Manager Responsibilities:

  • Administers company policies and provides direction for assigned Plant.
  • Maintains effective relationships, with all employees, customers, and internal staff.
  • Manages equipment utilization targets prior to the scheduled day and ensures communication with assigned plant and customers to ensure targets can be attained.
  • Ensures dispatch computer work is entered in the Command System in a real time environment.
  • Advises Operations/Field Services Director on labor issues including, safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, training and the like. Works with Management to ensure Plant Managers are adhering to company policy and administering practices in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Demonstrates effective delegation and leadership skills.

QC Responsibilities:

  • Conducts plant and onsite inspections and testing to insure compliance with mix and project specifications.
  • Monitors pour schedules and insures QC presence on High Priority projects
  • Performs ongoing ACI & ASTM concrete and raw materials testing. Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures. Evaluates data, writes reports and generates graphs and charts to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.

Sales Responsibilities:

  • Pursues all opportunities related to our business within the boundaries of designated territory.
  • Develops and maintains valuable relationships with clients at every level of business, up to and including C-level executives.
  • Develops sound working relationships with all municipalities and industry leaders within the boundaries of assigned territory.
  • Active participation in all levels of sales cycle

Skills: Excellent communication skills both written and verbal are essential. Excellent organization skills with capabilities of establishing and maintaining proper priorities and handling of detailed activities. Ability to plan, develop and coordinate multiple projects. Prioritizes and plans work activities; Uses time efficiently; Plans for additional resources; Sets goals and objectives; Develops realistic action plans.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent industry experience.

Experience: 7+ years of progressive, in-depth management experience in ready-mix industry.

Knowledge: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high profile and fast paced environment. Ability to perform computer function in a real time environment. Ability to objectively coach employees through performance issues and make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations and laws. Ability to work a flexible schedule.
